Ko Alice Rebecca Spittle tōku ingoa
Alice studied Māori Design and Art at Te Wānanga O Raukawa (The University of Ōtaki) in 2001 under Pip Devonshire and Elaine Beven.
Since graduating, Alice has been pursuing her own arts practice as well as immersing herself with artists and weavers throughout Aotearoa and Australia. In 2017, Alice returned to study kete whakairo (finely woven patterned baskets) at Te Wānanga O Aotearoa with Morehu Flutey-Henare.
Morehu Flutey-Henare, Reihana Parata (Aunty Doe) Rānui Ngārimu, Pip Devonhire and Elaine Bevon along with many talented friends/artists have all supported and inspired Alice in her continued passion for toi Māori.
Armed with this knowledge, she has worked as a full time artist for over 20 years and has sold her work around the world.
Her craft is meticulously designed by hand using traditional techniques, natural materials and natural dyes. She draws her inspiration from nature after returning home to Aotearoa from Australia in 2021.
Tikanga (culture), sustainable practices and Mātauranga are an integral part of her daily life.
Mō tātou, ā, mō kā uri ā muri ake nei
Nō reira, ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa
